I LOVE: MINI SUCCULENTS and WINDOW GARDENS

Updated: May 4, 2022

Create a garden in your kitchen window --- or any window!

I added a shelf with a board I had cut to size at Home Depot. I also bought a couple of corner squares (designed for woodwork trim at the corners of doors or windows) to use as "brackets" or shelf holders at the inside of either side of the window casing. A little paint I had on hand for the brackets and shelf, and voila! Of course you will want to align both brackets at same distance from the bottom of the sill for a straight shelf. In my design, I chose to place the shelf to cover the top of the bottom portion of my sash window and then cover the window below with a translucent window film for privacy from the neighbors' patio (naturally this gives them privacy from my eyes as well!).

Filling Your Garden

Use your creative flare by choosing little pots or mugs you already own.

I had quite a few pots and mugs around that added the perfect amount of "quirky" I was going for. By purchasing mini succulents at my favorite Trader Joe's (only 2.99 each!) as well as planting starts from other plants, I was able to create a fun assortment for my window garden. Add some new starts (rooting in shot glasses or juice glasses), then you can pot them once they develop nice roots.

Good Luck!
